Personal stories

Lived experiences of hearing, listening, and connection.

Why stories matter

Hearing loss, tinnitus, balance conditions, and the journey through hearing care are different for every person. Numbers and clinical descriptions tell part of the story. Lived experiences fill in the rest.

This space is intended to share personal stories from people in Aotearoa and beyond, in their own words. Stories help others feel less alone, help researchers stay grounded in what matters, and help clinicians and policy makers see the human side of hearing care.

What you will find here over time

  • Hearing loss and daily life
  • Tinnitus
  • Childhood, family, and whānau experiences
  • Cochlear implants and hearing devices
  • School, work, and social life
  • Balance and vestibular conditions
